Sexual Identity and Gender Therapy

You might be someone who:

  • Is questioning if you are LGBTQ+.

  • Already identifies as LGBTQ+ and are exploring new labels or identities under the LGBTQ+ umbrella.

  • Needs support for dealing with homophobic parents or family members.

  • Feels you don’t have a right to claim a LGBTQ+ identity because you aren’t “queer enough” or “trans enough.”

  • Is LGBTQ+ and want to start anxiety therapy or trauma therapy with a queer therapist who gets it.

Whether you are just coming out or are more settled into your identity, you don’t have to be alone in this journey. Read on to see if my LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy services are what you need.

You might be searching for online tests, or you make up tests in your head, to answer questions like:

“Am I gay?”

“Am I bi?”

“Am I nonbinary?”

“Am I trans?”

Maybe when coming across a femme person you like, you’re someone who gets lost in their head trying to answer the question “Do I like her or do I want to be her?” You get confused trying to figure out your sexual or gender identities on your own. It’s simultaneously the scariest thing and the most exciting thing you think about.

…Or maybe you’re a queer or trans person who feels they don’t fit in or deserve to take part in LGBTQ+ spaces. You might be someone who is often misidentified as cis-het, might be in a straight-presenting relationship, or might be BIPOC and finding yourself in predominantly White LGBTQ+ spaces. Your identities are often ignored, invalidated, or you feel pressured to prove your queer/trans identity.

Together we will acknowledge there is not one particular way to come out, nor is there a single queer or trans narrative.

We will quiet the expectations from others of who you should be, and amplify who you truly are. The things that bring you a sense of pride and euphoria will be nurtured. We will hold space for you to further settle into your identities, in whatever ways are the most authentic for you.

Are you ready for your story to be heard?

My experiences supporting LGBTQ+ people

I’ve been providing individual therapy and support groups to LGBTQ+ people since 2013. During my graduate training I received supervision and provided therapy at a community center specifically serving trans+ folks. From there I went on to partner with trans leaders in providing trans ally education, as well as community organizing for racial justice within local LGBTQ+ communities. I’ve published research focused on positive identity development for bisexual adults, and I served on the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Bisexual Issues Committee.

But the most important way that I’ve learned about how to support queer and trans people comes from listening to queer and trans people.
